Web Applications

Designing a website and social media is not just how it looks but about functionality and social architecture. It addresses: what you want to accomplish, how you want it branded, how you want it to function and how you want your users to interact and develop relationships. This step is the most critical, yet is often ignored. Below are the five phases for creating a website. The same process applies for other web tools.

Phase 1: Scope of Work

Please answer these questions….

* Why do you want a website? Or why do you want to revise your website?

* Do you want to manage and change the content?

* What do you want communicate on your website?

* What is your company brand? Is it clear and agreed upon?

* Determine whom you want to reach and how?

* What are needs of your online users/clients/potential customers/information seekers?

* How do you translate these needs to online features

* What actions do you want the visitors to take?

The answers to these questions will frame the scope of work and project proposal.

Phase 2: Architecture

This phase addresses how you transform the Scope of Work into your website. Marketing/Branding strategy ( Link), content management ( WP Link), action strategy… all of these issues are dealt with in this phase. Focus groups clarify Branding and strategy; navigation and page mockups are created. The results provide the underpinnings and guidance for the rest of the process.

Phase 3: Design

With the Architecture in place, the visual elements are developed. At this stage, the logo, screen layout, navigation, graphics, and content are all created.

Phase 4: Implementation

Once the screen design is finalized, the content provided, and the graphics created, the next phase is to test the product. At this point, it “goes live” to a staging server where it can be thoroughly tested. After the final troubleshooting tasks are completed, the site is ready to “Go Live” and released to the Web. The completed site is uploaded to the appropriate hosting server. ( link hosting page )

Phase 5: Promotion

With a site in place, the next phase is to make sure that the people targeted in the Scope of Work are actually coming to the site and utilizing the features. This involves an Integrated Marketing Strategy ( Link) of traditional advertising, online marketing including search engine optimization ( Link SEO page) social media.( link SM page) , and graphics ( link).

Phase 5: Tracking and Updating

With the site live, the next phase includes: creating a database of users, analyzing Web Statistics ( Link) who is coming to the site, communicating with these visitors, and making sure that these people come back. Keeping content fresh and updated is a key to website traffic and success; this task is often neglected and the client’s goals are not met.
